Areas of Responsibility are primarily based on your position within the organization. Most individuals in operations will have approximately four areas of responsibility:

  • Safety

  • Margin or Cost

  • Client Service-Level Agreements (SLAs) or Revenue

  • Coaching and Developing People

Those who are not as directly involved in operations may also share some of these areas of responsibility, but others will be more specific to a given position, such as an individual in finance focusing on more specific areas of responsibility within finance such as accounting versus tax preparation. In areas with more flexibility, managers can determine what those additional areas of responsibility are.

With a clear understanding of the areas of responsibility for a given role, it becomes much easier to determine what types of goals to set for that role in each review cycle. Learn more here on how to set SMART goals.
