Adding and monitoring goals for yourself or your team can be achieved in the Performance area of Dayforce. To walk through this process step by step, you can watch this video or read through the step-by-step walkthrough below.

1. Navigate to the Performance area of Dayforce from the main menu.

2. Click the Goals tab from the toolbar at the top of the screen.

3. To add a Goal for yourself, click the My Goals tab on the second toolbar towards the top of the screen. To monitor, edit, or add goals for your direct reports, you can use the Team Goals tab instead. Then click the Add Goal button at the top-right of the screen.

4. On the Add Goal tab of the pop-up screen that appears, type in the details of your SMART goal following the guidelines below.

  1. Name: This is how your goal will be summarized and displayed in Dayforce to your manager, try to be both concise and specific (e.g. “Try to reduce ticket backlog by 30%”, or “Improve efficiency to be able to conduct 7 repairs per shift”)

  2. Description: Here, you can add more details about your goal, such as the specific project, process, or target you’re hoping to achieve, the deadline for that goal, how it will be measured, and any measures of success where you will check in periodically.

  3. Goal Category: There are 5 different types here. When setting goals for yourself, select Individual Goals, unless they are Performance Improvement or Development Goals (only 1 is recommended per quarter). When setting Team Goals, select Team Goals or Operational Goals.

  4. Start Date & Due Date: The start date is when you start expecting to work toward that goal, perhaps the beginning of the month or the quarter for longer term goals, or the day you put them into Dayforce for shorter-term goals.

The due date is similar in that long-term due dates can be the end of the month or the end of the quarter, or perhaps a more project-specific deadline.

  5. Measure Type: Select how you plan to measure the goal based on how you wrote your SMART goal. You may use a Percentage, which allows you to select how a portion of the whole to measure yourself by, such as 30% fewer tickets by the end of the month, or you may choose to use Actual/ Target, which sets a specific number you are working towards, such as 7 repairs per mechanic.

5. Click Next at the bottom-right of the pop-up box.

6. If your goal aligns with a larger team goal or with a longer-term goal for the year, you can choose to connect your goal to that other, pre-existing goal under the Alignment section. If you don’t see the goal you expect to see under alignment, try and select a different Goal Category from the drop-down menu in the center of the box.

7. Click Next at the bottom-right of the pop-up box.

8. If you would like to add Tasks to your goal to document the step-by-step process of how you will achieve your larger goal for the quarter, you have the option to do so in the Tasks section by selecting Yes, I would and following the guidelines below.*

  1. Task Name: Summarize your task concisely to use as a header

  2. Task Description: Add any additional details that help flush out how you will execute this task, who others involved in this task might be, or what resources or time are required to complete the task.

  3. Due Date: Optionally, add a deadline for when this task must be completed to stay on course for achieving the overall goal.

  4. Task Assigned To: For those with direct reports, you can assign tasks to members of your teams in support of a larger goal. In this drop-down menu you can select which person this particular task is assigned to.

  5. Add Tasks: Using this button above the Task Details allows you to add as many additional tasks as desired.

*Please note that Tasks are entirely optional, and only the Task Name is required when adding Task details. If you do not feel the need to add Tasks to your goal, you may simply select No, I will skip this step then the Finish button at the bottom-right.

9. Click the Finish Button at the bottom-right corner of the pop-up box.

Once your goal appears under the My Goals tab in the Performance area of Dayforce, you then have the option to revisit it, edit it, edit any tasks, or even delete it.
